This 5mm EL wire is ideal for outdoor applications since sunlight isn’t good for EL Wire and the thick coating on this wire protects it while still having a bright neon effect.
It is the least brightest of the different diameters of EL Wire that we stock.
Has a connector already attached, so simply plugs into an EL Driver, which is required, to make it glow.

Description

The 5mm EL Wire is the least brightest of different diameters of EL Wire, but is ideal for outdoor applications – Sunlight is not good for EL Wire and the thick coating on this wire protects it more.

Some people also prefer this thicker wire for its ‘chunky neon cable’ look but will not bend into the rightangles required for some letters of the alphabet.when you’re making a faux neon sign.

The colours we have at present are:

Light Blue (Tron Blue), Purple, Deep Blue, Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow, Grass Green, Lime Green, Turquoise-Green and White

This 5mm thick EL wire is available in the following lengths: 10cm, 1 metre, 3 metre, 5 metre, 10 metre

This wire comes with a standard connector already attached so that it simply plugs into any EL Driver.

By using ‘Splitters’ you can also connect different strands to the same Driver.

EL wire has loads of uses!

It has an amazing neon string effect when decorating the interior or exterior of cars, can be used inside and outside of your home and office and can even be threaded into clothes and hats.

This wire comes as ‘plug and play’ but if you want to get more technical you can be cut into smaller lengths

Our EL inverters can run many lengths of wire as long as the total length of the wire is under the Driver/Inverters maximum capacity

With some care, the EL wire can be attached to speaker wire to make patterns or extend the wire over gaps where it isn’t needed

Joining tape and tubing for re-attaching the wire are available from this store

– this is if you want to cut the EL wire and rejoin it or perhaps attach some wire to a different inverter

Cutting the wire into the length you choose is simple… but rejoining it takes care and attention so you will definitely need some wire strippers.

You can happily use the joining tape and heat shrink tubing for a decent join but if the joint is likely to encounter stress (e.g. if it is threaded into clothes that will then be bent and jostled) or if the join may be hard to reach (e.g. behind a panel in a car) then we would advise soldering to avoid future hassle
